This is the Vacation

After sending the last file, Aslı sighed deeply. She had packed up the work she had to do and it was time to take the vacation she had been longing for, she deserved it. She had worked all year, non-stop, shuttling between home, work and the children's school.

Aslı had no complaints about working. She loved what she did and tried to do her best. Because she did her job well, she was appreciated by her managers. She also got along well with her friends and tried to meet their needs. She had become a popular and sought-after person at work. She was not interested in the outcomes of her work; she focused on the process. Since she wasn't interested in the results, she was not nervous and enjoyed her work. That joy was reflected in the people around her. That's why her colleagues were happy to do business with her. Her presence meant a lot and her absence was felt immediately. It was obvious when she took a vacation.

Doesn't the person who can make work enjoyable also make vacation enjoyable? Those who know the value of vacation are the ones who make the most of it. Just like a student who studies and looks forward to vacation. It is the presence of the working process that makes that vacation worthwhile for him.

When people do not produce, their consumption starts to increase. People who are in consumption find it more and more difficult to work. They even spend their normal time as if they were on vacation. They do not benefit both themselves and those around them. As they consume, they become weaker in life, their stress increases, and they react instantaneously. It is unpredictable when they will react. Their tension is reflected in all areas of their life. Therefore, it is difficult to make sense of those tensions while relaxing on vacation, in a place to enjoy. However, people want to rest, relieve their tiredness and enjoy themselves on vacation. That is why those who can enjoy their vacations are those who spend the whole year working and producing.

Do people appreciate what they getwithout working and laboring?

A productive person is lively and cheerful, and values his/her place. From the outside, one wonders how they can enjoy themselves so much. The beauty of the scenery during the journey, the music they listen to, even their breaks contain a joy in themselves. Even if there are arguments, they do not last long, they do not turn into fights. Even if they get bored, they know how to manage this boredom.

The Experiential Design Teaching states: “People are happy as long as they produce. Both their presence and absence make sense."

Being happy is about what one produces, not what one consumes. Whether it is a vacation or something else, the real skill is to make that process enjoyable.
